Before the heatwave hit our local County Fair, we managed to enjoy most of the fair. However, Nancy was completely unaware that dogs were not allowed on the fairgrounds until she saw a prominent Facebook post stating, “NO DOGS at the fair, unless they are service dogs.” We strolled through the fair for three hours without any issues, despite the presence of Sheriffs. I suppose Greg’s electric cart and my excellent behavior led them to assume that I am a service dog. However, when we went to the 4H building for lunch, a kind woman informed us that I couldn’t stay inside because I wasn’t a service dog. I thought it was only in food-related buildings. Nevertheless, we didn’t encounter any problems while walking around the small town fair, even when Greg was away.
Pets and people often don’t require the “proper papers” to fulfill their natural instincts. Not until Nancy was on FB later on Thursday did she see in huge letters on a post, “NO DOGS” at the fair. Both Nancy and Greg thought I didn’t realize that I was not allowed at the fair, but hello, I do understand english. Some dogs have to just wreck it for the rest of us dogs. It is just like humans do for certain events. Thank you small town County Fair for being so kind to us when we brought Harmony to the fair on Thursday and you did kick us out.
But let’s get back to the fair. We all thoroughly enjoyed admiring the flower displays and creations crafted by the 4H kids. It was my first time learning about 4H at the fair. Nancy, who was in 4H as a child, shared many fond memories of her 4H Club, particularly her time playing on the softball team. I understand some kids take Dog Obedience classes for 4H too. Of course, I had never seen a horse before. Wow, they are such beautiful animals, with their graceful gallop. We sat for a long time watching the horse show. When I barked a bit when I first saw them glide across the show ring, Nancy realized I didn’t know what a horse was because I had never encountered one. Soon, I was captivated by their beauty and skills, and I sat in silence, awestruck! It was evident that those riding the horses were so joyful to be on their horses. I suppose it’s somewhat like how Nancy feels when she walks with me—so proud and at peace.

Glad you enjoyed the fair and didn’t get into too much trouble, but before assuming that everyone enjoys dogs (I never trust a person who doesn’t like dogs!) it’s kind of good to check things out before just bringing a dog along, no matter HOW well behaved and friendly they are. Everyone thinks their dog is perfect and in your case, it’s true, but it doesn’t hurt to check the rules first to avoid disappointing the poor dogs who suddenly are not welcome for whatever reason.
