June 28, 2026

My blog might be a bit longer today because it’s been a few weeks since I last wrote. Life gets busy, and sometimes I’m unsure about what’s appropriate to share.

I’m not entirely sure why Nancy has taken up knitting, but she mentioned that it’s partly to cope with my cancer diagnosis. It all started last week when  we stumbled upon an incredible garage sale. Not only did it have some fantastic Longaberger Baskets (I know, she didn’t need more!), but it also had a bin filled with numerous knitting needles. Did I mention that Nancy has been wanting to learn how to knit lately? Anyway, after trying to select several pairs of needles for just $1.00 each, the kind garage sale woman offered her a deal: “I’ll give you a discount if you buy all of them.” Well, it was a garage sale, so why not?  She ended up taking all those needles for a mere $10.00, fully aware that not all of them could be of good quality.
The great garage sale was held a few days before our dear friends arrived for a long-awaited visit. My friend, Sue, was thrilled when Nancy mentioned her desire to learn how to knit again. Although Nancy had briefly learned how to knit as a child, it was a short-lived experience. Naturally, Sue brought her enormous bag of yarn and encouraged Nancy to choose some to practice on. Once again, she chose youtube   to use videos instead of a direct lesson from Sue and another friend Jane, as the limited time during our visit didn’t allow for a comprehensive lesson.  Now, when she is not knitting, I allow her to cuddle with me more and longer (or shall I say, smother me) because I will be fine.  She knits so she will be fine.

We had a few delightful diversions today to escape the reality of my illness. Before we headed to the craft sale, Nancy discreetly slipped out early to attend the book sale organized by the local library. (She doesn’t need any more books, just saying!)

First, we visited a craft and flea market in our small town for the Neighborhood Days. I met so many adorable kids. One particularly sweet little girl asked so sweetly, “Can I pet your dog?” Her sweet smile made it clear that she was simply adorable.

Our neighbors shared that their son plays in an amazing baseball park that hosts our town’s sports games. We were all shocked at how much fun a small-town baseball game could be. What had we all been missing all these years—all this down-home fun? They even played catchy music at times.

I think today, I’ll sleep a lot and watch the Twins’ game with Greg.
