April 25, 2026

Certainly, it’s springtime when Nancy pulls out our little Toro lawn mower to mow the lawn. (After all, what else would she do with a lawn mower?) We were just watching the 5:00 PM news when Nancy abruptly announced that she was going to mow the lawn. So, I quickly found my orange ball and got ready to go outside for the next 2-3 hours.   Even if the Minnesota Twins baseball was on soon,  there was no way I was staying inside. I almost forgot the pure bliss of being outdoors for hours. It wasn’t just about playing fetch; it was about savoring the fresh air, admiring the blooming trees, and of course, ensuring that Nancy mowed the lawn properly.

Today, we’re visiting her parents’ farm not only to see her brothers but also to attempt to salvage that massive Toro walk-behind mower. It’s been dead for almost three years, and they’re not ready to let it go yet. Besides, Nancy, being a farmer’s daughter, would rather have old things fixed  rather than buying new ones.  Therefore, there’s no way she’d want to buy a John Deere mower, as they’re quite expensive.    Besides, new mowers don’t come with a side passenger seat, so why bother getting one?  But then, I am not that old that I need a passenger seat!  Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I met a neighbor’s dog, Lobo, a Siberian Huskey (exact breed?) while  we were mowing our front yard.  His blue eyes were mesmerizing!    They let us play for awhile  without any leash and I thoroughly enjoyed their dog.   We invited them to come over anytime to play in the huge backyard.

Garage sale season has kicked off with two of our neighbors hosting sales. To avoid the heavy car traffic near our house, Nancy mowed the lawn after 5:30 p.m.   We walked to both nearby sales, but we didn’t need anything and essentially went to support our neighbors (even if we didn’t make any purchases?).    I can definitely sense when people don’t welcome my presence, and so does Nancy. What do you think I’ll do at their garage sale? Will I eat or pee on their items? I suppose other dogs give some of us well-behaved dogs a bad reputation!  We don’t judge those people because they don’t “get it” and we walk away to keep our peace of mind.   That is my advice today, walk away from anyone who doesn’t get you, but in a loving and patient way.

  1. My first thought after reading your blog today was even I would rather mow than watch the news… then you made me laugh asking should I eat or pee question. I’ll go back a few blogs and see if l will laugh again. I love your humor. We all need to laugh! Oh, and your advice today well received. Tell Nancy HI! I wish we lived a little closer! ~ Lori in the Buckeye State. P.s. the yard looks lovely!
