This morning, when Nancy opened an email, she came across a quote by Sharon Jaynes that resonated with her. The quote read, “Sometimes the voice you need to ignore is your own.”    So, I pondered this for a while as the voice in my head urged me to write my blog. I skimmed through the article that discussed the numerous times humans tell themselves, “Why bother?” for various reasons. However, I had to put my paw down and remind her that she genuinely doesn’t want to ever think about “why bother” because, HELLO, I’m here to motivate her anytime!

I’ve occasionally found myself wondering, “Why bother?” when I feel compelled to write my blog. However, when someone comments on it, I feel that if even one person reads it, it’s a worthwhile endeavor. It took Nancy years to realize that I trained her, not the other way around. At times, I would entice her to come back outside to play when I wouldn’t go inside. She would probably be thinking, “Why bother?” and would play with me while Louie and Serenade obediently went inside. I’m sure those two dogs knew I had her completely under my control or wrapped around my paw!

I suppose that’s why she checked if the treadmill in the basement is still working? I reminded her that any “why bother” comments about her continuing her weight loss journey would not be tolerated.  Suppose the same applies if I even catch her thinking “why bother” while she’s practicing to achieve her former tone status or technique on saxophone or bassoon?   I did ask her about practicing, and she replied.   “I choose to bother myself with practicing because when I hear a familiar sound, it renews my hope for why I do bother!”
