Day Two: Twelve Days of Christmas

Day Two: Twelve Days of Christmas

On the second day of the Twelve Days of Christmas, may you choose to gaze deeply into the eyes of your loved ones and truly see them! Just yesterday, I reminded Nancy of this while she was shaving my face and paws. Amidst her busyness of organizing the house, we sat on the floor for almost an hour as she groomed my face. That’s when I locked eyes with her, taking those precious few seconds to truly connect. Through the eyes of a dog who loves her enough to remind her of her beautiful soul through my eyes.  You can laugh at our connection if you don’t understand our love, or you can choose to try and connect with your pet or loved ones, just like we do.
While I realize I’ve already discussed the importance of connecting with others through eye contact, I believe it’s a valuable reminder, especially during the Christmas season. It’s a simple and free suggestion. As you go about your day this December, take a moment to smile at someone. This small gesture can make a big difference in their day, showing them that they’re being noticed and appreciated. However, be mindful of cultural differences, as some cultures may not appreciate such a gesture.

Actually, when I visited Greg last year during his back surgery at a local hospital, I learned from some knowledgeable individuals that certain cultures are uncomfortable around dogs. So, when we were near some of those lovely cultures, Nancy said, “I’m sorry if my dog is too close to you or offends you.” To our surprise, a few people wanted to meet me. I know, it was my eye contact!   May you make some special eye contact with a human or even a pet today!
