On Saturday, I was completely perplexed when I noticed Nancy was mowing the leaves. After just one row up and back, she emptied the crushed leaves and grass into a large paper bag. When I questioned this task, she replied, “Well, Harmony, I don’t want your ball lost in the leaves!” I couldn’t help but think, where’s the fun in that? It all came from a few days ago when I ran over to the neighbor’s house with a ball in my mouth to visit the adorable kids. Unfortunately, I lost the ball, and we finally left after playing with them. Nancy then
informed the older kids that she would reward whoever found the ball with $1.00. A boy visiting the neighborhood happened to find the ball, and now Nancy is sending him a dollar because he lives two hours away from us.

I wondered what my dear friend Winnie the Pooh would say about leaves falling? So, I tried to think like Winnie the Pooh as I watched Nancy mulch the leaves while leaves were still falling. Winnie would probably simply find a log and sit down and watch the leaves fall. Oh, and of course, Winnie the Pooh, like me, wouldn’t attempt to judge Nancy for mowing leaves instead of allowing me to jump into piles of leaves. Besides, there are tons of leaves that fell overnight behind that huge maple tree. Nancy promised me that she will build a leaf pile for me to play in for a day or so.
Last week, before all the yard work, I was left in the house while Nancy gathered greens and red dogwood
for our Christmas pots.. I believe she was concerned about a skunk or raccoon lurking in the bushes, or perhaps she had some other silly excuse. She later revealed that Serenade, another standard poodle, had been sprayed by a skunk in the backyard of our old residence and was determined not to risk it happening to me. Regardless, I watched her carefully as she arranged our Christmas pots for the front of the house and the deck. She had purchased a few items for the pots, including the red things and pine cones. I think she intends to make one more pot as a gift for someone.
