June 14, 2025: Meeting Bruno

I’m bursting with excitement as I write this blog entry about my recent visit to a friend’s family who owns a  standard poodle.  Not only did I love  Bruno, their dog, but I also fell in love with all the humans I met during my visit.  OK, so I will admit that at first I had to give him (Bruno) my approval before I played with him.  You see, I’m a rather gentle dog, unless someone or another dog tries to overpower me, then I assert myself! Even Nancy was surprised by the stronger side of my personality that was revealed during our initial introduction.   After a bit of  my assertive conversation with Bruno, Nancy released me and we immediately began playing together as if we had been friends for our entire lives.
Actually, I think what convinced me that Bruno was accepted in our “friends” category is that Nancy really loved Bruno too.  Even though Bruno is slightly larger than me, size doesn’t matter when it comes to friends, whether dogs or humans. It’s the personality that we all interpret.  Bruno made me feel like his age of just over one years old.  It was so sweet how he shared all of his many colorful balls with me as we played fetch in the backyard.    Then, I was also delighted that Cindy,  the hostess allowed me in the house while we shared delicious appetizers and a meal together.    Who knew, right?  No wonder, I love this family and can’t wait to see them again soon.
It’s quite a lengthy story about how Nancy knows Matt’s family, and I must admit, I was quite confused myself. Years ago, she had Matt as a great saxophone student, but he then switched to bassoon. Since Nancy didn’t own a bassoon at the time (it’s her double instrument, meaning her second strongest instrument), she sent him to an orchestral professional. He eventually bought a beautiful bassoon and now allows Nancy to use it. She gave it back to Matt for many years because they were busy needing to move, etc. But now, her heart is soaring again as she played it last night  after many years.   She was very fortunate to have one of the very best bassoon teachers, Chuck for years and he  even reads my blog.  Nancy says, “Thanks, Chuck!   Those bassoon lessons are forever fond memories of the enthusiasm and wisdom you taught me!”     Thanks to Laurie too for the best bassoon reeds!
Well, guess who’s now playing the saxophone? One of Matt’s lovely daughters has taken up the instrument. Nancy, a saxophone enthusiast, couldn’t resist giving her a mini lesson. She was delighted to hear that her band director had done an excellent job of introducing his daughter to the saxophone.   Hey, if she gives Matt’s daughter in person lessons this summer here and there, I can see Bruno again.   No, I don’t think that is a far fetched dream, do you?
This blog could ramble on endlessly about Matt’s wonderful family, saxophone and bassoon skills. But hey, I’m just a dog who gets to bask in all this happiness!

  1. Hooray for the bassoon! It was my great pleasure and privilege to be able to work with Nancy on the bassoon. What a great instrument! But, I wish its sound projected as much as does that of the saxophone!

  2. Hi Harmony, I love reading your blog. What a lovely story about your friends! They seem lovely. Your blog is consistently uplifting and is the most lighthearted thing I read. I’m in love with the light-hearted. Your pure wisdom proven in staying far away from politics. Sending love from Ohio.

    1. Oh Lori, you made my day! I think you will hear more about my new friends because I really loved Bruno, their dog and his companions! Have a great week now. Harmony
