April 12, 2025

You know, I write these blogs from my cozy couch. Right now, there’s a full moon, and I’m admiring it through our maple tree. However, it’s gradually fading due to the cloudy evening. I suppose you thought you’d find a photo of me all groomed for this blog? Well, you’re in for a surprise! My grooming is a gradual process that takes place over the course of a week. So far, I’ve had my face and paws shaved, and even my head top scissored. Yesterday, we sat in the lovely warm sunshine on the deck while Nancy diligently ground my paw toenails down. I can’t help but imagine how I’ll soar through the air once my main coat is shaved down too!

During the springtime, I’m always mesmerized by the beauty of new trees budding and the birds returning to sing. Recently, I was with Nancy when she moved an artificial red cardinal to our birch tree on the side of our house. When I inquired about the significance of the cardinal in the tree, she shared a surprising story.  According to an article in the farmersalmanac.com    https://www.farmersalmanac.com/cardinals-legends-lore-and-spiritual-symbolism,   “It is common folklore that a visit from a cardinal represents a sign from a loved one who has passed.”     Okay, let’s return to the story. Nancy mentioned that after her beloved father passed away in 2015, she started seeing red cardinals randomly appear whenever she felt the most in need of her Dad’s presence. During the coldest winter months, she would often spot a vibrant red cardinal perched on a tree branch while she was doing the dishes or sitting at the kitchen table. Her Mom, who passed away two years ago, is still present in her memories, and they are always there for her.

I, too, have a loving mother! Unfortunately, she lives too far away to visit her. Interestingly, her name is Clarinet, which is another instrument that Nancy plays. However, our experience is different from that of humans. As puppies, we are cherished and loved by our birth mothers for eight weeks. After that, we transition to sharing our love with our human companions, teaching them the true meaning of unconditional love. I suppose this blog material could be expanded upon for Mother’s Day weekend, but mothers should be celebrated all the time, in my opinion!

Now, as if this blog couldn’t get any more random, I’ll leave you with a photo Nancy shared with me upon returning home from work the other night. She pulled aside the rode to take this photo.
