Red Winged Blackbird Encounters: May 29, 2024
Recently, a red winged blackbird hastily thrived for my attention. At first, it kept crashing into the patio doors. I was perplexed because we did not have food nearby the patio windows. The bird continued its mission by flying into the kitchen windows. Once I was able to notify Nancy of the bird visitor, her camera kept trying to capture photos. Strange how I don’t seem to scare the bird to fly away, but a human does.
Silly Nancy, she placed a tangerine on the deck railing. She knew that would attract the baltimore oriole birds, but uncertain about red winged blackbirds? I tried to warn her that she may not want to attract that bird to our house more than it already was? But no, she proceeded with one of her stubborn streaks. Stay tuned for how she had to succumb to my theory of the tangerine fiasco.
How often do you want to chuckle at someone’s ideas? If I kept a journal of life’s humorous activity at our home, I would have volumes of chapters. Keep in mind, my blogs are proof read by Nancy before she lets me publish them. Imagine if I was able to write without her editing my thoughts?!
So, back to the lovely red wing blackbird that became an annoyance! Even after the tangerine was soon removed from the railing, the bird was a relentless visitor. That is when Nancy gave in to social media help. Her clever sister-in-law, Etta reminded her that reflective CD’s scare away birds. Of course, Nancy recalled that strings of CD’s hung from ropes around a former neighbor’s pool would keep the deer away. Since she was too lazy to find string and empty CD’s, she used reynolds wrap instead, taping it to the window and railings. Voila! Guess what, no more red winged black birds flying into our windows. Never a dull moment around here!
