Remembering Toby! July 11, 2022
Today, I want to write my blog in honor of Toby. I never met Toby but he was Nancy’s nephew’s dog. According to Nancy, he was as important in Doug’s life as I am in her life. Simply stated, some people’s lives revolve around us dogs, so since Doug lost Toby, I wish I could run to him right now and jump into his arms. I know how it feels to be so loved. I know how it feels to love a human so much that I start to feel human.
Toby was with Doug whenever possible. He understood Doug better than anyone else and for this reason, of course, he will be greatly missed. You see, when other humans don’t get each other, that is where us dogs step in. We validate their worth when no one else seems to “get it” and we never, never judge. Constantly, we remind them that it will be OK. Us dogs seem to fill the gap for humans when their art (whether music or visual arts) becomes silent. Us dogs gently nudge our companions to break their silence through their art. Yup, it is a healthy cycle for sure.
So, dear Doug, from our household to your home, we send you our huge condolences in the loss of Toby. I wish I could be there for you right now. I would just sit by you and we would share Toby stories – I would hear and feel your heart. Oh Doug, we are so very sorry for your loss of your best friend, Toby.
