February 1, 2022: Coaching Kindness

There I was, minding my own business when a woman accompanied by her  cute tiny dog came into the building.   I watched that little dog scurry into the elevator.   When the elevator returned, I looked all over for that dog. What? Where had it gone?  Were they trying to play hide-n-seek?   I looked everywhere for the dog.  I soon decided that it was not meant to be to make a new friend with that cute dog.
Isn’t it that way sometime for you too with possible new friends?    Just about the time that you think there is a new friend in your life, they disappear as fast as they came into your life.  But, I have learned that sometimes those short moments with a possible friend can be  enough.   Yes, that moment of hope in any form can sustain us.    Into our lives, there will be many new people and things. But, nothing satisfies us more than the inner peace and hope deep inside of us.   Haven’t you ever noticed that us dogs tend to arrive at that inner peace and hope far sooner than you humans!  Perhaps, that is the reason so many of you have dogs in your lives?  We are coaches for life.
This has caused me to rethink my intentions.  I will never give up on being nice to other dogs or people, even if they shun me.   For if I yielded to those common human emotions of rejecting anyone who rejects me, then I would be rendered as bad as those that avoided me, right?  Now, I may not be a psychologist,  but I do understand the matters of  the heart. So, this week let me nudge you to be kind to  those who don’t really  deserve your kindness because you’re bigger than that.
